http://www.moby.com/journal/2010-03-18/yesterday-president-obama-sat-down-do-in.html yesterday president obama sat down to do an interview for fox news, which was odd, as fox news is not technically a news outlet. fox news is the mouthpiece for the reactionary and lunatic fringe of the right wing republican party in the united states. but the journalist, bob baier, set a new low, even for fox news, and was disrespectful not just to president obama but to the office of the presidency. he interrupted countless times, in many instances refusing to let president obama actually answer the questions being asked of him.
fox is routinely loathsome, but this is a new and despicable low even for them.

the sad and tragic thing about fox news is that there are tens of millions of people in america who actually watch it and take it seriously even though it's just lies and opinions masqueraded as news. moby

http://www.moby.com/journal/2010-03-14/glenn-beck-said-recently-you-should-run-.html glenn beck said recently that 'you should run as fast as you can from any church that preaches social or economic justice.' huh.
that seems to be exactly 180 degrees opposite to the teachings of jesus. i mean, i'm not a theologian, but didn't jesus kind of encourage his followers to take care of the poor and the sick? and didn't jesus actually and specifically preach social and economic justice? some theologians would argue that a majority of jesus' teachings are centered around social and economic justice. justice is a concept that even goes back to the old testament.
The prophet jeremiah wrote: "Did not your father the king do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. 'Is that not what it means to know me?' declares the Lord."
And the prophet Isaiah wrote: "Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow."
Time magazine this week has an article, 'Why does Glenn Beck hate Jesus?' maybe this is a question worth considering, especially among the right wing 'christians' who consider glenn beck to be their saviour.

http://www.moby.com/journal/2010-03-12/just-working-music-trying-figure-out-whe.html just working on music, trying to figure out whether the next record should be:
a all acoustic and orchestral or b a hybrid of acoustic, orchestral, and electronic
i have to say, the idea of making a record that is exclusively acoustic and orchestral appeals to me, as it's a completely different way of working. but if it's an acoustic and orchestral album i think it'll end up being REALLY slow and melodic and melancholy.
it's been really interesting working in big, old, traditional studios. and thus far i've set myself the rule that: every thing on the record so far has to be recorded with a microphone. in other words: no synths, no drum machines, no samples, no electronics. i love synths and drum machines and samples and electronics, but it's interesting working without them. who knows, maybe they'll come back into the process at some point.
in the meantime some grey and foreboding pictures. nyc in the snow an amazing statue in new jersey seen from the train more nyc in the snow.

11th March, 2010. 11:26 pm. Warning, this update really isn't for anyone who's squeamish.
http://www.moby.com/journal/2010-03-11/warning-update-really-isnt-for-anyone-wh.html Warning, this update really isn't for anyone who's squeamish.
I'm currently on a train from philadelphia to new york. About 5 minutes ago the conductor announced that there was a problem up ahead and we were going to be delayed a bit. No one on the train paid any notice, as small delays are common, and kept reading their newspapers or working on their laptops.
We pulled through a local station and I looked out the window and saw a lot of police cars, police tape, and police officers. I looked down and saw blood and viscera on the tracks. Then more blood. More viscera. And torn clothing. For the next 1/2 mile I saw more and more blood and pieces of torn clothing and unidentifiable viscera and body parts. Clearly someone had been very recently hit and killed by a very fast train. A lot of the viscera was being covered up by police officers, but most of it was scattered around the train tracks. So I'm looking out the window, stunned and horrified at the slow procession of someones remains, and I look around the train car and see that I'm the only one aware of what's going on and what has happened.
Everyone else on the train was reading their papers or on their computers, blissfuly unaware that we were 5 feet from the remains of someone who had been destroyed violently about 15 minutes before. We've left the police scene, and now the train is speeding along again, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. Everyones still reading their papers, drinking their coffee, focussed on sports scores and news and emails, with no knowledge of the horror we just slowly passed through.
A ticket collector just walked up the aisle, her face ashen and her eyes wide and shocked, so I assume she saw what we just passed through.

http://www.moby.com/journal/2010-03-09/today-release-date-gristle-book-my-frien.html March 23rd is the release date of 'gristle', a book that my friend miyun park and i have edited for the new press. the chapters in 'gristle' are written by different experts about the consequences and ramifications of animal production (like, for example: 24% of climate change is the result of commercial animal production, more than every car, bus, truck, boat, and plane on the planet combined... not sure why al gore never mentions this...)
it's a great book (i can say this objectively, as i didn't actually write any of the chapters...), and i hope that you get the chance to read it. oh, any/all profits from the sale of the book will go to different animal welfare organizations.
thanks, and here's the link to buy:
Buy from the New Press
